ACTING Prime Minister Leo Dion urged the East New Britain provincial assembly to work with the newly-elected Deputy Governor Ereman Yareng to improve the province.

Dion was in the province recently to attend the provincial assembly meeting, which focused mainly on the election of the deputy governor and the swearing-in ceremony of the four community representatives for youths, sports, women and church groups.

“Yareng possesses over 20 years of experience in the provincial political arena and is a suitable candidate for the job,” Dion said.

Dion was confident that Yareng was well versed to contribute meaningfully in the development of the province.

“The governor and his deputy may not be able to achieve the provincial objectives alone. It is only through teamwork that our goals can be achieved. Therefore, I am calling on you – the residents, appointed leaders and provincial members – to come together, put aside your differences and move East New Britain forward,” Dion said.

He congratulated Yareng and community representatives and told them to serve the people effectively.

Yareng is the president of East Pomio LLG and the chairman of provincial Works.

He was elected unopposed.
