POWER and water supply to Parliament House will be shut down in a move by the Somare government to force the O’Neill-Namah regime out of Parliament House.
In a new twist of events, police moved into Vulupindi House to remove newly-appointed Finance secretary Gabriel Yer yesterday while senior public servants including departmental heads were getting two different directives from the O’Neill and Somare groups.
Sources said the move was to lay contempt charges against certain ministers in the O’Neill cabinet including the speaker who had been holed up in the House for the last four days.
The O’Neill team had been camping at Sir Mekere Morauta’s residence at Touaguba Hill and arriving in parliament to conduct the session.
Sir Arnold Amet in a letter to Public Enterprises Minister Patrick Pruaitch stated that the action to shut down power and water was to restore normalcy in respect of the Supreme Court Orders.
“Pursuant to the Supreme Court orders of Dec 12, 2011, relating to the East Sepik provincial government’s Supreme Court reference and the urgency to restore normalcy including the authority and functioning of the executive government of Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare, I seek your instructions for the shut-down of power and water services to Parliament House,” Sir Arnold stated in his letter.
“The services will remain closed pending further instructions from the government.” Sir Arnold stated in his letter.
