EAST New Britain (ENB) health director Dr Raymond Paivut says there are fewer donations due to strained economic conditions caused by the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
“Donations in any form are welcome and appreciated,” he said.
“It will help save our costs as we need to feed our patients,” he added.
Dr Paivut said this at the presentation of 50 20kg bags of rice by NH Trading Ltd to Nonga General Hospital in Rabaul on Monday.
NH Trading Ltd managing director Sheik Baridhulla said the donation was part of the company’s Muslim holy month donations to charities and the needy.
“Resources at schools and hospital are running low because of the Covid-19 pandemic and we are happy to help in any way possible,” he said.
Baridhulla said similar donations would be made to schools in Rabaul, churches, communities, Rabaul Police Station and the Rabaul Town clinic.
“We want to give back to the community,” Baridhulla said.
“We are operate business here and we’re making money and we need to give back to the people.”
Dr Paivut said the provincial health authority was facing financial constraints in the current Covid-19 pandemic and that any donation received “is a great relief”.
He said there were other donations received last year which the authority had to share with other district clinics in Warangoi and Pomio.
“The authority management is appreciative of such donations and support from businesses,” Dr Paivut said.
