TWO disabled people escaped death after a double-storey covenant house was set ablaze in a petrol bomb attack in Enga’s Mugulep village in Porgera last Friday.
The two were fast asleep when the “bomb” was lobbed into the veranda at 1am by unidentified arsonists.
The duo screamed for help when they were awakened by the heat and neighbours rushed in to carry the two to safety.
Highlands divisional commander ACP Simon Kauba said the owner of the house, Pastor Job Busane of United church, and his wife were away in Tari when the arsonists struck.
He said K22,000 belonging to the pastor and other substantial amount of offering money kept in the house went up in smoke with musical instruments and household goods worth thousands of kina.
ACP Kauba said Pr Busane and his wife spent K150,000 to build the house.
“We have yet to establish the motive for the attack and investigations are still in progress,” he said, appealing to the public for information to help nab the arsonists.
“Any people know any information about the attack should call the Southern Highlands police  or any other relevant authorities.”
