PEOPLE living with disabilities have the right to access equal services as everyone else, says Department of Religion, Youth and Community Development secretary Anna Solomon.
“It’s not their fault but it is how we shape the environment which makes them see themselves being left out of many services that the able-bodied people are enjoying,” Solomon said.
The National Advisory Committee on Disability (NACD) is made up of a group of people from different departments and agencies, representing different objectives in the national policy on disability 2015-2025.
The aim of the committee is to make sure that it the policy is implemented and the rights of people with disability are being advocated and talked about to help them.
In an induction programme of the committee last week, Solomon said, through the work of the committee, people with disability enjoy their lives.
Solomon told the advisory committee that when they came together, they would discuss on how they fitted in to address the rights of the people with disability in their own agencies and departments.
She thanked the Australian Government for helping the Government through the Strongim Pipol Strongim Nesen programme to address the issue through the Department of Religion, Youth and Community Development.
Solomon also appreciated the work of non-governmental organisations and churches for their continued help and support.
