PEOPLE living with disabilities in Western Highlands have praised the government for recognising and addressing issues affecting them.
Joshua Iki, chairman of the Mt Giluwa Disabled Centre, said disabled people in the province welcomed the call by Prime Minister Peter O’Neill urging them to go into disability centres and make a head count.
Iki said O’Neill had said they would send representatives to each centre to make head counts.
He said that was what disabled people wanted from the government.
He said they had been deprived of their rights for many years and some of them were beginning to think their lives were of no use.
He said now that the government had recognised them, they were willing to take part in development activities in the country.
Iki said the nation needed everyone’s contribution.
