THE people of East New Britain will be given disaster assistance when the disaster report is received by the Department of Inter-Government Relations, acting minister John Boito said.
Boito said he had not received any disaster report from the provincial disaster committee. But, if the report warranted assistance, then the department would assist.
Gazelle MP Malakai Tabar had asked Boito if the National Disaster Coordination Centre and the department would assist the people of East New Britain affected by disaster.
He said heavy rain and flooding had destroyed homes, food gardens and public infrastructure in the province.
Tabar said roads had been destroyed while a new bridge, which was recently commissioned, had been washed away.
