WIVES of personnel at the three disciplinary institutions in Port Moresby hosted their second carnival at Bomana Police College over the long weekend.
The three disciplinary forces included the Bomana Correctional Training College, Bomana Police Training College and the PNG Defence Force from the Taurama Barracks.
Bomana Police Training College commandant Supt Peter Philip said sport was a good way of staying healthy. The sports include soccer, basketball and volleyball.
“The disciplinary forces focus on basic disciplinary operations in the country and forget sports,” Philip said.
“The effort the wives of the disciplinary forces put forth to host this event was not only for sports but to unify the three disciplinary forces.”
PNG Defence Force Lieutenant Colonel Boniface Aruma said, the carnival, which had been a feature in the 1980s to 1990s, had been brought back to build connections within the forces.
He said connections had deteriorated over the years, but he was pleased wives of the personnel from the three institutions were working to foster the partnership.
PNG Correctional Services College commandant chief supt Kiddy Keko said the event would be a part of their annual programme.
He said the Bomana Correctional Training College would host of the third event next year.
The four-day carnival was sponsored by police commissioner Gari Baki with K20,000.
The National Gaming Control Board supported the event.
