Disgusting lot of silent MPs should just retire

MANY of the country’s MPs are uneducated and got into parliament because of wantokism, their fat wallets and their willingness to do deals.
I would have thought that MPs such as Sir Mekere Morauta, Sir Puka Temu, Paru Aihi, Sam Basil, John Hickey, Ken Fairweather, Sir Julius Chan, Byron Chan, Malcolm Kela-Smith and James Marape were different.
I had believed that they stood for better things, especially with their grand talk of fighitng corruption, abuse of power and so on.
It appears that in their scheme of things, it is all right to ignore the Constitution, which states very clearly that every five years, the people will exercise their right to cast their vote for a government.
By voting to defer the election, whether by six years, six months, six weeks or even six days, they are already breaching the Constitution.
What gives them the right to remain as MPs for longer than the five-year rule?
What makes them better than the “corrupt” people that they have ousted?
They have done so much questionable deeds in a relatively short period of time and are now seeking even more time to remain in office.
They have obviously tasted power and what it enables them to do – to fly anywhere they wish at public’s expense in the comforts of a private jet that they had so strongly criticised, to hand out cash to ensure their re-election, or to allocate huge funds for projects, many of which will never see the light of day.
I am not surprised that some MPs support many of the breaches that the O’Neill-Namah regime has done, but I certainly did not expect it from people such as Sir Puka, Sir Mekere and so on.
It is possible that they realise they are growing old and this could be their last shot.
Keeping quiet and voting the way the boss tells them to will ensure that they remain in the government faction and enjoy all the goodies that come with
it.
Their silence amidst all the upheaval is a sad testament to their decline and willingness to fight for transparency, good governance and public interest.
As far as I am concerned, their words do not mean anything anymore as whatever they say is only to serve their own interests.
I wish they would retire from politics and leave it to others, who are prepared to step up for the sake of the people and the country.
What a disgusting lot!
