SCORES of people flocked to watch a display of the country’s exotic variety of orchids in Port Moresby on Saturday.

PNG Orchid Society president Justin Tkatchenko said PNG was blessed with natural flowers which had been recognised in other countries. The three-day International Orchid Spectacular is held at Parliament House.

“PNG is a unique country because it is home to some of the rarest species of orchids in the world,” Tkatchenko said.

The PNG Orchid Society received a gold medal at world orchid conference in 2011 in Singapore,” he said.

There are more than 3000 species of orchids already found in PNG.

“The society promotes PNG’s orchids every year through its annual orchid spectacular,” Tkatchenko said.

“Many people, especially women, love the colours and exotic array of orchids,” he said.

Daniella Sam said the show was good because it would help people identify orchids.
