THE National Volunteer Service (NVS) is one of the largest government agencies administering various community impact programmes that come under the Ministry of Community Development.
First Secretary Minister for Youth, Religion and Community Development, Sere Kala stressed that on behalf of Lae MP Loujaya Kouza during the celebrations of 2014 National Volunteers Day in Port Moresby.
Kala said the agency had on an annual budget of K1.2 million and despite very limited funding it still functioned as an entity of the ministry. He extended his gratitude to all the volunteers of the agency in Port Moresby and other parts of PNG for their dedication and commitment in displaying the true spirit
of voluntarism.
“We are truly thankful and we salute you all for displaying your role with true professionalism as a volunteer,” Kala said.
“Thank you for living up to the standard of the name volunteers service.”
Kala said if every citizen performed a good deed to someone or a community without asking for anything in return, “we would be living a better society than yesterday”.
“This will also strengthen our traditional and tribal bilateral obligations with each other,” he said.
Kala urged people to renew their commitment, to re-kindle the spirit of voluntarism and do a good deed to the community.
He said volunteers should work harder to achieve the NVS’s objectives. “PNG National Volunteer Service needs to look for innovative and creative business opportunity where you can be of service to others, both in the government and private sectors,” Kala said.
“This I believe will also enable us to contribute more meaningfully to the economy of this country and we will be a creating a better PNG for tomorrow’s generation.”
