NATIONAL Soccer League franchise Morobe United has been bought off by the Finschhafen District Development Authority (FDDA), says authority chairman Rainbo Paita.
He said with the district being soccer fans there was an initial idea of fielding an NSL team but according to advice, it was easier to buy or take over an existing franchise.
“So we do not need to do the paper work but make changes to the management and put our team in and probably change the name as well,” Paita told The National.
Paita said the authority had received some funds from the PNG Gaming Board last year which had gone towards assisting the teams in the district as well as purchasing the club.
He said it was not about winning but was about local talents playing in the highest league in the country.
“So all the clubs get ready, Finschhafen is coming onboard.”
