District focuses on investing in sea, land transport

Huon Gulf has invested in sea and land transport to make services available for its people.
The district administration said improving accessibility and service provision would also benefit tourism in the district.
The district development authority under local MP Ross Seymour bought seven motorised boats as well as a 15-seater van for transporting tourists and visitors.
The boats include five with 75hp motors, one with a 300hp Johnson inboard motor and a sea ambulance christened “Pendek” after a long-serving district health manager.
Of the five smaller motorised boats, two were given to Yabem women and youths currently preparing to host a Lutheran church youth conference in Lababia, Salamaua.
The remaining three were given to Buansing village, Morobe LLG administration and Eware village.
The sea ambulance will service the Salamaua and Morobe local level governments.
Seymour said the larger boat would be used by the district administration and was also tied into promoting tourism activities in the Huon Gulf.
“Huon Gulf has become the ‘heartbeat’ of Morobe and the country based on wealth deposits beneath the Wafi-Golpu mountains,” he said.
