District gets health centre

THE people of Sursurunga-Tanglamet, on the south-eastern tip of New Ireland, are to have a health centre funded by the New Ireland provincial government.
A delegation from the provincial government, the health sector and Governor Sir Julius Chan, Namatanai MP Byron Chan, administrator Monivi Amani, landowners and locals were at Lipek last weekend for the groundbreaking ceremony of a new health centre to be relocated to Laun at Nokon.
The new health facility will be named after Sir Julius’ mother Tinkoris, a landowner in the 16 hectares land made available for the health centre.
Within a month of the governor and PEC approving the new centre as a result of hard work by the lands division, 16ha of land was settled during a ceremony to the concerned four clans amounting to K75,000.
“The shift in the development perspective among our people is a sign of maturity. The people of Sursurunga Tanglamet have been patient and now they will be rewarded with the best government health facility – not only for current population but for the generation yet unborn,” Sir Julius said.
