A DISTRICT in East Sepik has been awarded a K8 million contract for three projects.
Yangoru-Saussia District Development Authority chief executive officer Fantson Yaninen said they included a high school, a district institutional housing project and a University Learning Centre.
Yaninen said K6 million was allocated for the construction of the West Yangoru High School, and K1m each for the construction of the University Learning Centre and the housing project.
He said the public servant housing was funded by the Department of National Planning and Monitoring and the other K1m was from the Office of Higher Education.
He thanked East Sepik Governor Sir Michael Somare and provincial administrator Elizabeth Kaprangi for the funding of the West Yangoru High School from the Provincial Services Improvement Programme.
“The awarding of the contracts will pave way for the contractors of the projects to commence construction work on these projects,” he said.
Yaninen said establishing a high school in West Yangoru would be a relief to the students who had been travelling to other parts of the district.
The University Learning Centre will be constructed at Warasaua to address the problem of school dropouts.
“Students who don’t make it into universities or colleges have joined the unemployed population and have also been engaging in criminal activities,” he said.
