District hit by lack of classrooms
The National, Thursday February 19th, 2015
A DISTRICT education manager has questioned the lack of building infrastructure development for schools in Kabwum, Morobe.
District education manager for Kabwum Ezekiel Nigo said the education system in the district was very competitive.
Parents sent their children to Wasu Secondary School in Tewae-Siassi electorate because “we have only one high school which serves 40 primary schools”.
He said Wasu could not accommodate most of the Kabwum students and had to send them back home.
It can only accommodate students from Tewae-Siassi.
Nigo called on MP Bob Dadae to fund the building of more classrooms and dormitories in the district to address the growing number of students.
Nigo said the district was yet to reach its peak in education because of the infrastructure problems. “In Kabwum, we need more building infrastructure to cater for those who will come out of Grade 7 and Grade 8 from 40 primary schools in the district.”
The district has four local level government councils – Komba, Selepet, Yus and Deyamos.
According to the district education plan, they are in remote areas and students find it hard to come to the Kabwum High School.
