MORE than 10,000 people of Hegu, Kabiufa No.2, Goroka district in Eastern Highlands, celebrated Easter with the opening of a three-in-one classroom at the Hewe Primary School.

They joined school board chairman Ken Baiyango, board members, head teacher Daniel Frank and staff during the opening ceremony.

Representing Goroka MP Bire Kimisopa was district administrator Bill Kavanamur who officially opened the classrooms last Thursday.

Kavanamur commended the school for the transparent use of funds to build basic infrastructure such as the double classroom.

He said the government’s free education policy had encouraged more children to come to school.

But a school lacking basic infrastructures would hinder learning.

Kavanamur said it was a wise decision to build three classrooms in one building.

He thanked a founder of the school Kapilo Kasimo for starting the school in the Hegu area in 1974. It has since produced influential figures in the private and

public sectors.

Goroka district education officer Ian Kapu praised the school for building new infrastructures.

Eastern Highlands provincial education adviser Dennis Gunere called on the people to look after the facility.

The occasion also coincided with a ground breaking ceremony for a new staff duplex performed by Kapu and Gunere.
