KAIRUKU-Hiri by-election candidate Peter Isoaimo has promised the people of changes in the electorate if he is elected.

Isoaimo, 44, a councillor and provincial government member for 20 years, said the people must carefully think about the kind of leadership they had been under in the past years.

He came second to Paru Aihi in the 2012 general election and later successfully challenged the election result in court.

He told more than 5,000 people attending  his final campaign rally at his Inaui village in Mekeo on Wednesday: “Why is there such a large crowd here today? Because you don’t believe in the leadership the electorate has had for the last five years.

“I have been with you too. Every one of us has missed out. We have had little to no development at all.

“That’s why there is a need to change the leadership in Kairuku-Hiri. The highest courts of this land, the National and Supreme courts, have confirmed that there is something wrong in the leadership.

“They have confirmed that the former MP has conducted himself in an illegal manner and fashion during the 2012 elections.

“I just couldn’t sit back and allow corruption and whatever else to continue in the office of Kairuku-Hiri MP. This is why I had to take up the fight.”

Isoaimo said he had travelled to all Kairuku-Hiri villages, spelt out his policies and those of his National Alliance Party, and what he would implement if elected.

“As I’ve always told you, there is no other way for government MPs to spend money,” he said.
