District opens treasury office
The National, Wednesday July 8th, 2015
A NEW district treasury building costing K2.5 million has been opened in the Kundiawa-Gembogl electorate in Chimbu by Finance Minister James Marape last Thursday.
He was accompanied by Finance Secretary Dr Ken Ngangan and department officials.
Marape reiterated that the country’s finance was in safe hands and managed properly.
He said Prime Minister Peter O’Neill had changed the country, evidenced by major projects seen in the provinces.
Marape said the focus was moving away from Port Moresby to the rural districts and towns, through district services improvement programme, provincial services improvement programme funds, and local level government services improvement programme.
He thanked Kundiawa-Gembogl MP Tobias Kulang for funding the treasury through the District Development Authority.
Marape said Chimbu received K120 million in 2013-2014 and there should be tangible development in the province reflecting this.
Ngangan said treasury officers should be living and working in the district.
