Pomio in East New Britain is working on a strategic plan at setting up two high schools for each of the five local level governments (LLGs) in the district.
Pomio education coordinator Caspar Ruga explained that this was to ease the burden of student intakes at the existing high school and three secondary schools in Pomio.
Ruga said the ENB education team were looking at setting up two junior high schools at existing primary schools with conducive facilities, mainly at Uvol Primary School in Melkoi LLG and Pomio Primary School in the Central-Inland Pomio LLG.
“According to our inspection reports, these two primary schools have met the requirements with the necessary learning facilities for various subjects such as science laboratories and home economic rooms, as well as dormitories,” he said.
Ruga said these schools needed were additional infrastructure to cater for the student intake for two additional grades of nine and 10.
