THE Nawaeb district in Morobe has started preparations to host the Evangelical Lutheran Church 32nd national synod next January at the Boana parish.
MP Kennedy Wenge gave K10,000 to members of the Siloam congregation of the parish on Saturday to support the preparation.
Boana is in the Wain-Erap local level government.
“This is the second time Boana is hosting a national synod and we have to be prepared to look after those who will be attending,” he said.
“Boana has 19 parishes and one Lutheran Revival and we are supporting all of them in their preparation to successfully host the synod.”
The synod is held every two years since the first one in 1956. It is the highest decision-making body of the church.
Delegates from the 17 districts of the church can raise concerns and issues and are allowed to vote and make resolutions.
Chief executive officer James Neapukali said the district authority had already given K50,000 to the 2020 national synod working committee.
“A K200,000 funding was distributed with K10,000 going to each of the 20 parishes in Boana.”
Kabwum MP Patrick Basa also gave K20,000 to the Boana officials.
The district authority will also help.
