District to pay fees for student teachers

National

THE Nipa-Kutubu development authority has promised to pay the fees of its secondary school students accepted for the four-year teaching degree programme at the province’s teachers college next year.
MP Jeffery Komal said the district wanted to boost human resource development in the province.
To be eligible, students should be from the district, attended one of the two secondary schools there, attained a grade point average of 2.3 or higher and picked through the national selection process.
Komal said the district development authority (DDA) had been supporting tertiary students improving school infrastructure.
“It has always been the DDA’s dream to support human resource in the district,” he said.
“Kutubu Oil will run dry one day and human resource (will become) vital. I am their father and they are my children.
“I will continue to fund their school fees.”
Komal’s message to tertiary students was to be role models for their brothers and sisters at secondary, primary and elementary schools.
He said he was satisfied that there were some changes done to the education sector but more needed to be done.
