DEI students at tertiary institutions will be assisted with their fees by the district administration.

Dei MP Wesley Nukunj has committed K1 million from the district support improvement programme funding.

It will assist Dei students at the University of PNG, Pacific Adventist University, University of Natural Resources and Environment, Divine Word University, University of Goroka and University of Technology.

Nukunj offered students attending these institutions K1,000 each this year.

He also declared education as one of the major priorities for the district in Western Highlands.

K5 million has been set aside for education under the district services improvement programme – K4 million will be for school infrastructure development.

This will be part of an education foundation that the district administration has set up to facilitate scholarships for Dei students in PNG and overseas.

Last Friday, Nukunj presented the UPNG Dei district students president Douglas Minimbi a cheque for K130,000, K6,000 will cater for an additional 136 students.

“I hope this serves as a catalyst for students to work extra hard in their studies,” he said.
