Pomio in East New Britain has been allocated K70,000 to move of a Telikom tower from the district headquarters site at Palmalmal.
The money is to fund the relocation of the tower and land clearing for the construction of the Pomio district headquarters.
Pomio district development authority chairman Elias Kapavore said the tower would help provide communication services for government and private sectors in rural Palmalmal.
He said the funding from the provincial services improvement programme for last year would fast-track work on the new headquarters, which is expected to cost K5 million.
Kapavore said the district administration was without an office, forcing public servants to work from home and conduct meetings in Kokopo.
Kapavore also thanked the Government for funding (K600,000) work on the remaining 2-3km of the south coast road linking Pomio to Gazelle Peninsula.
