Do not judge others too quickly

Letters

IN Dec 2018, a young man was terminated on the spot by his employer, a hotel along Waigani Drive, because he took an orange from the kitchen without asking permission from his kitchen department supervisor.
As the mentor to this young man, I tried to contact the manager for clarification but I was told that she does not deal with family of staff.
I am not a family member.
I am someone who assists those young people who are genuinely in need.
I acknowledge that what the young man did was wrong.
I am just wondering if the employer had the courtesy to hear him out and give him a warning, instead of giving him such a harsh penalty as terminating him.
This young man has been homeless for all his young life with no one to guide him.
When given a second chance at life, his self-worth improved.
However, since his termination, he is slowly losing hope.
He acknowledges his mistake and has vowed never to take anything without asking.
He is a hardworking young man who respects others.
Since knowing him, he has never stolen a thing (including money) from me and my family.
Bottom line is, do not judge someone too quickly from a mistake they make.
Give them the opportunity to improve and become honest and productive individuals in life.
Have you ever wondered why there are so many young people who lose hope in life?
