MT HAGEN police station commander is appealing to people in Western Highlands not to take their tribal conflicts into the city.

Chief Inspector Jacob Kamiyak said Hagen city should remain a neutral ground for people, including tribal enemies.

Kamiyak said that last Wednesday at Tiki village in Dei district when Kopen Kopi tribesmen invited police and city manager Pious Pimto apologise for killing a fellow tribesman in Hagen city in 2011.

He said that if everyone wanted to take their tribal conflicts into the city and take law into their hands, the city would be chaotic.

Kamiyak said that would scare away people from other provinces intending to come into the city.

He said tribal conflicts should be resolved  at home and not in the city.

“The city is a neutral place where people from all walks of life come together and interact, do business, get services and go back. It’s not a fighting zone,” he said.

Insp Kamiyak commended the Kopen Kopi tribesmen for saying sorry to police and the city authority for their wrong-doing.
