LAMANA Dockers recorded their first AFL win of the season at Amini Park on Sunday after a dismal start to the season two weeks ago.

The reigning premiers were beaten by their last season’s grand final victims Gordon Kokofas 6-7-45 to 5-5-35 in the season opener but the wharfies rose back to prominence to the equally determined University Tigers 6-3-39 to 2-5-17 at Amini Park on Sunday.

The Tigers also lost their season opener to Taurama Suns and on Sunday they were also determined to get their first premiership points but the Dockers had the last laugh with a better coordinated team effort.

The Tigers in fact kept the wharfies in check for the best part of the game until the last quarter when the reigning premiers made good use of the wind and booted the winning goals with good positional kicks.

Apart from getting their first premiership points on the board, the win also served as a reward for the Dockers management who took a gamble to fly-in last year’s premiership players Valu Nakas and Zacchary Rava from Kimbe, West New Britain for the weekend’s match.
