Dockers take advantage of breeze against Cats to register first win of AFL season

DOCKERS registered their first win of the Port Moresby Australian Football League season after they beat Cats 41-32 at the Colts Oval on Saturday.
Dockers kicked six goals and five behinds while the Cats kicked five goals and two behinds to go down by nine points. Cats took advantage of the breeze that was on their side in the first quarter as they kicked three unanswered goal to lead 18-0.
When they changed positions in the second quarter, Dockers used the breeze as they kicked three unanswered goals and two behinds to lead 20-18 at halftime.
Cats failed to capitalise on the breeze in the third quarter as they only kicked one goal and two behinds to lead 26-21 as Dockers only kicked a behind in that quarter.
Dockers blew Cats off the park in the final quarter as they made good use of the wind, kicking three goals and two behinds as Cats only kicked a late consolation goal.
Dockers coach Lai Ila told The National after the game that his men had improved from last week.
“We knew we had to record a win this game after we lost last week and I am happy for the boys,” he said.
“I believe we have improved on our fitness level and that was key to this win.
“But we still need more improvement in some areas.”
