Doctors commended for efforts in heart programme

Governor-General Sir Bob Dadae has expressed his gratitude to doctors and other medical staff from Australia and Papua New Guinea who are involved in the annual Operation Open Heart in Port Moresby.
The  programme, which began in 1994, has seen many patients given new hope.
“I want to personally express my heartfelt appreciation to the doctors and heart specialists from Australia and Papua New Guinea who have been
involved in the surgeries,” Sir Bob said.
“They are performing lifesaving surgeries and giving our people a second chance in life.
“I want to thank the doctors who have volunteered their time and resources to be part of this programme, as well as volunteers and organisations supporting this worthy cause.”
The governor-general also praised local doctors who had undergone training through the programme.
“I am confident that in the near future our local doctors and heart specialists will be able to
perform these surgeries in the country.”
