Doctors to decide on strike action
The National – Monday, March 14, 2011
THE National Doctors Association (NDA) will decide on Wednesday to go on strike or not.
President Dr Kauve Pomat said 98% of NDA members had already signed up in an open ballot.
Pomat said at a press conference yesterday that members from other centres would convene this week in Port Moresby to deliberate on the next course of action.
He claimed that the Department of Health had led the association on a “wild goose” chase with the progress of 2007 to 2009 NDA award review and its signing.
In a letter to the Department of Personnel Management (DPM) dated Feb 28, Pomat said that the association was disappointed that negotiations and review commenced early 2008 along with the job value study of doctors undertaken by DPM with assistance of NDA.
Pomat said the final submission of review was tendered last September .
NDA put on notice the association’s concern on the long delay in signing a final draft of the review for the three-year industrial awards to DPM last month.
