Domestic flights will continue: Marape

DOMESTIC flights into and out of Port Moresby and between provinces are to continue, according to Prime Minister James Marape.
Marape told The National that domestic travelling should adhere to the new guidelines.
“We have to start learning to live with Covid-19 so domestic traveling will continue, with strict adherence to the new normal,” he said.
“But I encourage Papua New Guineans not to travel unless it is essential as travelling unnecessarily during this time will only endanger you and your family from the Covid-19,” he said.
“We are also re-looking at measures in place and are discussing this with all provinces in terms of domestic travelling.”
Marape said the country had 202 new cases in the past 25 days.
“To date, there have been 214 confirmed cases of the Covid-19 with three deaths, 71 discharged and 140 active cases. And there are no severe cases reported in the past 24 hours,” Marape said.
Meanwhile, the Port Moresby General Hospital Emergency Department is operating, says Chief of Emergency Dr Sam Yockopua.
He told The National yesterday that the department continued to treat emergency cases and referral cases.
“The new process however, is that all patients are screened in the white tent set up outside before they are brought in,” he said.
“Some patients and their guardians are careless and they do not bring in their sick until the very last minute.
“They let their loved ones become so ill before they rush them in and sometimes, it is just too late,” he said.
