Don’t blame Asians for our own shortcomings
The National, Tuesday June 10th, 2014
I SUPPORT Peter Kuman regarding his comments about Richard Maru’s racist comments (Jun 5).
Such comments against Asians, or any race for that matter, are certainly of bad taste in this day and age, especially coming from learned professionals who have been exposed to the dynamics of immigration, foreign relations, trade and commerce.
Almost every country in the world has a Chinese restaurant, so what can the minister say about this fact?
Time and again, I read and hear of Asian bashing, which is nothing but comments from sour grapes when Papua New Guineans can learn a lot from Asians about commitment and hard work.
There were over 7,000 Filipinos that were employed during the construction of the LNG project because PNG does not have the expertise.
Will Maru criticise them for helping to deliver the project on time and within budget?
Ministers and ordinary citizens must learn from such experiences and aspire to achieve success through hard work and progressive attitudes as well as government policies.
The Asian trade store owner will make money where a national cannot because he does not have the kind of unnecessary expenses and poor attitude that we have.
Because we are not so successful, we resent Asians and resort to cheap shots and racial slurs
What a shame.
