PLACING fourth in the 25m standard mix shooting event was a disappointment for PNG shooter Mel Donald yesterday.

She however, accepted the result as one of those things that happen.

“The best result for me is to see the women with good results,” Donald said.

Donald scored 499, while bronze medallist Perchard Johan of New Caladonia scored 522. Her scores were reduced after a technical fault with the weapon, as she repeated five shots for the series.

“It doesn’t matter, I am very proud of being the first PNG woman to win a gold medal in the Pacific Games,” Donald, who is the PNG Olympic Committee vice president, said.

“Other PNG shooters Tania Mairi and Winifred Sauna are doing fine here.

“One thing I learnt is that you cannot be an organiser and an athlete same time, she told The National at the June Valley Shooting Range yesterday.

“If you want to be an athlete — stick to that; it helps with concentrating to perform better.

“I am wearing five hats, and this may be the reason for not focusing (on my shooting),” she said.

RESULTS: 25m Pistol mix:  Khan, Fayium Murtaza, Fiji (gold); Freddy yen Kway, Tahiti (silver); Creek Douglas, Norfolk Island (bronze).
