A SCHOOL in Chimbu has been donated K2,000 worth of farming materials to impress on students the importance of farming.
Dirima Primary school head teacher Jack Gena thanked the Fresh Produce Development Agency (FPDA) for the donation and said the school would use arable land for farming.
The school received bulb onions seeds, green net, spray pump and chemicals.
“This is an investment worth more than K2,000,” Gena said.
Gena said vegetable farming for business would go hand in hand with the animal husbandry project the school planned to start soon.
FPDA’s seed potato development coordinator David Kaupa said people in Gumine needed to farm the land for subsistence and for agro-business.
He said more than 20 farmers had registered and more than 300 others had shown interest in Dirima-Yani.
He told the students and teachers that farming for business was the new norm for the district.
