VOLUNTEERS who regularly gave blood to help save lives were hailed for their generous act at the World Blood Donation day in Port Moresby last Friday.

Deputy Health Secretary (national health standards and services) Dr Paison Dakulala delivered a statement by Minister Michael Malabag.

“Today, we thank our voluntary donors, these people are our heroes.

“They have come year after year to generously donate their life-saving gift of blood,” Malabag said.

He said many lives were lost because of inadequate supply of blood and made reference to the National Health Plan which highlights the goal to improve maternal and child health by 2020.

He appealed to the public to make it their business to voluntarily donate blood not only for relatives but for others who would need it.
