Don’t be ignorant

Letters

WHEN the controller and prime minister say do not be complacent, what do they really mean?
The Covid-19 is a virus that is unique and seems to possess various and chained characteristics.
It comprises a combination of symptoms of most commonly airborne diseases like flu, cough, fever and etc.
PNG seems to have a problem with following orders.
People have this ego of self-satisfaction.
They say things like, “Everything will be all right” and “I’m not going to get this virus”.
They think PNG is immune because we of our melanin and tropical climate.
Some even think because PNG is a Christian country, God would not punish us.
All these things portrays that we are too complacent.
What the PM is trying to say is that we must not dwell on those ungracious reasons to justify our egoism.
We must not hang on the belief that the Covid-19 is just a passing flu.
Whether we realise it or not, over time, Papua New Guineans have subsumed into a lifestyle of ignorance.
You could say that the Covid-19 threat is here to take on the virus of ignorance in PNG.
Hopefully, people will change some of their ignorant attitudes, become more cautious and responsible and work towards a healthy and better future.
Therefore, let’s not be ignorant and smug as the Covid-19 is real and fatal.
It is here to stay.
