Don’t ignore patients amidst pandemic

Letters

HOSPITALS and health personnel must uphold ethical standards at all times amidst the spike of the Covid-19.
Attending to patients who critically need their services must be maintained while adhering to the safety measures in place for the pandemic.
Hospitals have the sole duty to serve patients by the oath they took.
We already have an incident at the Port Moresby General Hospital in which an asthmatic patient was left unattended and was directed by the hospital staff to help herself to ventilators during which, she succumbed and died.
Such deaths are caused by the ignorance of the health professionals who were supposed to have attended to it.
Hospitals should maintain their moral and ethical standards to serve people who critically need medical attention regardless of whether they were Covid-19 patients or not.
The death by this asthmatic patient is disparaging towards the hospital.
This type of scenario scares people from seeking medical care at our hospitals.
Hospitals should not give excuses not to attend to patients because of the pandemic.
The Covid-19 should be treated as any other sickness.
Few medical officers have painted a bad picture of many hardworking officers.
Health officers are front liners and their lives are at higher risk of contracting the virus.
Following simple health guidelines will also help in containing the spread of the Covid-19.
The new deadly virus is here to stay.
Learning to live responsibly with the pandemic is something we all must learn to live with.
Hygiene and safe medical practices to avoid the outbreak should be maintained at all times.
