Don’t wait till election

Letters

THE 2022 national general election is just around the corner and I want to highlight something bad about PNG politics, which has become a norm.
Many politicians practice it.
They vanish and focus on building their empires after being elected and reemerge when it’s almost election time.
The fifth year in office seem to be the crucial year for service delivery where MPs go around acting as project managers to gain recognition.
However, there are a handful of genuine politicians in the likes of Agriculture Minister and Maprik MP John Simon, Yangoru-Saussia MP Richard Maru, Enga Governor Sir Peter Ipatas, National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop and Housing and Urban Development Minister and Moresby South MP Justin Tkatchenko.
These parliamentarians and a few others deserve praise.
The rest just wait around for the final year before election to make their presence known.
This has been going on for some time and needs to stop. We need a new breed of leaders to cut that bad cycle.
I call on tertiary students to organise themselves and conduct awareness in their communities so we don’t ignorantly vote those who do this.
Enough is enough.
Let’s work together to rescue PNG.
