PAPUA New Guinea suffered their second pool match loss at the hands of Pakistan by 145 runs on Monday.
Skipper Dogodo Bau chose to field first.
Pakistan started well with the opening pair putting on 125.
Pakistan were looking solid at 197/2 in the 39th over with a score in excess of 300 in their sights.
A late fight back from the Garamuts bowlers restricted Pakistan to 283/8.
Kabua Morea picked up 3-45 with Alei Nao (2-55) and Riley Hekure (2-57) picking up two wickets each and Allen Joseph 1-30. Pakistan’s Imam-ul-Haq top scored with 88.
PNG’s run chase started disastrously as Hekure was run out without facing a ball. Partnerships were hard to come by as the Garamuts lost wickets regularly to be eventually bowled out for 138.
Kiplin Doriga recorded a fluent half-century.
Doriga’s 51 off 56 balls was PNG’s first half-century for the tournament.
Allen Joseph (16 not out), Bau (15) and Tom Willie (12) were the only other batsman to get into double figures.
Garamuts now take on India in their last pool match tomorrow at Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
The match will be telecast live on Star Sports Cricket Channel on Hitron starting at 3.30pm (PNG time) on Wednesday Feb 19.
