IT was double celebration at the Goroka hospital’s labour ward in Eastern Highlands on Easter Sunday with the delivery of two sets of twins.
Hospital staff confirmed that mothers Andrea Asa from Zonteve village in Henganofi and Hellen Kiwai from Lufa station in Lufa, Eastern Highlands had each given birth to twins. Asa delivered two baby girls at 7pm weighing 1.9kg and 2.1kg respectively, while Kiwai gave birth to a baby boy weighing 2.7kg and a girl weighing 2.6kg at 5pm on Easter Sunday.
The deliveries were the first for both women who expressed their joy at their bundles of joy and thanked the hospital staff for their help.
The twins were among the 22 babies (10 girls and 12 boys) born on Easter Sunday.
It was also reported that a set of triplets were born on Saturday.
Hospital staff said they had fewer births last Christmas and New Year but were happy to successfully deliver the two sets of twins on Easter Sunday.
Meanwhile, Catholic parishioners at the St Mary’s church in Goroka were able to celebrate Easter Sunday masses and maintaining social distancing by having each member of the congregation sit four meters apart.
The parish had three separate masses.
