MUNGKAS women beat Guria 2-1 win in the Port Moresby Soccer Association women’s premier division at Bisini Park on Saturday.
The champion team scooped up K2500 and PMSA women’s shield while Guria were rewarded with the minor trophy and K1000 prize money.
Mungkas captain Jessica Nawi said after the match that winning was all they had been talking about while in camp and made it happen on Saturday.
“We were prepared for it and coach Robert Sabadi was responsible for all the finishing touches in our preparation and he should be credited for the win,” Sabadi said.
Sabadi said Mungkas were the 2013 champions of PMSA and worked hard to reclaim the title three season later.
“They (players) prepared and work hard for it and did it their own way to maintain that,” she said.
Both sides have several current and former international players but Gurias’ fast and free flow attacking set the pace of the game.
Mungkas were the first to hit the net on the 12th minute through Lavinia Hola.
It was an even tussle in the midday heat but in the 23rd minute, Mary Valu’s push her side further ahead with 2-0 lead. Mungkas had players like Fatima Rama, Claire Tsuga, Damaris Serubi, Dora Wbeawa, Esther Kenatsi, Ruth Turia and Pauline Constantinou dominating the park.
Guria’s skipper Esther Kurabi, May Liosi, Cathy Lanta and Katherine Horis played their guts out breaking into Mungkas box but could not turn it into point. At half time, Mungkas held onto their 2-0 lead. In the second half Mungkas’ fleet-footed Fatima Rama beat the opposition keeper but her judgment was wrong and she went over the line.
It was frustrating for the international who looked down and ran back to the line. Guria managed a consolation goal seconds before the final whistle.
