The Pamba family in Madang had a double celebration yesterday when both parents graduated with honours during Divine Word University’s 36th graduation ceremony.
Kevin Pamba was one if the mentors for many journalists who passed out from the university.
Pamba began as a lecturer teaching research journalism in 2000 and made his way up to a level where he graduated as a doctor in Philosophy yesterday.
He received an award in recognition of his research thesis titled Communicating with indigenous landowners in liquefied natural gas (LNG) project: A Papua New Guinea Case Study.
“I’m happy and excited about this achievement,” he said.
Wife Cathy Wale Pamba graduated with a post graduate certificate in higher education teaching and learning.
Secretary for Higher Education Fr Jan Czuba said the graduation was the biggest in the country with over 1600 students graduated.
He said Divine Word University achieved and implemented its 30 year work plan because of its combination of good governance.
The graduation theme was “Tranformative learning with core values for the digital age”.
Czuba encouraged the use of digital information for development that meet the needs and aspirations of the present generation and not compromising the ability of the future generation.
He said much effort was expended in using ICT to make organisations operate better.
“But we need to ask what we mean by better. The more we think about these questions, we realise that these are indeed philosophical and spiritual questions,” Czuba said.
“I call on each graduate to think more about these questions and to take personal responsibility for the uses of which they encourage and enable technology to be used or through their consumer choices.”
