THE 31 police officers in Port Moresby who tied the knot in a mass wedding on Friday have been asked to maintain respect and love for one another.
Anglican chaplain Fr Reginald Makele told the officers and their wives during the wedding ceremony that marriage was an important covenant that should embrace respect and understanding to ensure it last long.
“The issues of having broken and polygamous marriages sometimes resulted from wives not respecting their husbands and husbands not loving their wives enough,” he said.
Makele said when there was no love and respect in the family, marriages broke down and children became the victims of their parents’ bad decisions.
“This has become a common issue in the country that has a big impact on the children’s education. Their social wellbeing will be affected and they will not grow up to be positive members of the communities,” he said.
He told the couples that corruption in the country, including in the constabulary and in government, began “in the family”.
