POLICE in Manus have appealed to drivers to slow down in town areas and pay attention to pedestrians and other road users.
Manus police commander Chief Insp David Yapu made the call after a hit-and-run on Tuesday in Lorengau resulted in the death of a 33-year-old man of Milne Bay-Manus parentage.
He said the man ran across the Ward Three road and was hit by a 10-seater land cruiser vehicle.
He landed on the other side of the road, was rushed to Lorengau General Hospital but died later.
Police followed up on the description of the vehicle, located it and locked it up at the police station.
The driver of the vehicle was found and taken to the station.
Chief Insp Yapu said the driver was charged with dangerous driving causing death and locked up .
He was due to appear in court on Monday.
In another incident, a man from Ndrehet village in the Pnka local level government was attacked and by a crocodile on Saturday morning at the Saliau river when he was paddling his canoe.
Chief Insp Yapu said the villagers conducted a search and found parts of his body in the early hours on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Peter Ticka Pohak, 38, married with three children.
