A MAN has died and three are now in critical condition at Vunapope Saint Mary’s Hospital in Kokopo after a road accident over the weekend.
Provincial police commander Supt Sylvester Kalaut confirmed the accident yesterday.
He said the accident happened at 5am on Sunday on Sulka Road.
The driver, identified as Reison Pawa, 28, from Kunakunai village, was accompanied by three youths.
They had been travelling on Sulka Road towards Warena Settlement when their vehicle overturned four times, resulting in Pawa’s  death and leaving the three young men with critical injuries.
Kalaut said the traffic officers who visited the site of the accident had told him that “speeding” might be the cause of the accident.
He said the vehicle was a double cab Toyota Hilux.
Kalaut said despite the accident, the province was quiet during the festive season and thanked people for cooperating with the force in maintaining law and order in the province.
