Driver, reservist held over car crash
A POLICE reservist has been charged with allowing an unlicensed driver to drive a police vehicle and crash it in Port Moresby, police said.
NCD and Central Assistant Commissioner Donald Yamasombi told The National the incident took place at Garden Hills on Monday morning at around 7am where the female, who was allegedly drunk, drove the vehicle into a fence and was arrested by traffic police.
“She is not a police woman but was driving a police vehicle and we believe she was drunk at the time,” he said.
“The vehicle was given to her by a reservist traffic police officer at the 4-Mile traffic office.”
The suspect (woman) was charged with driving without a licence and detained.
Yamasombi said the traffic matter would be investigated with National Capital District Metropolitan Supt Perou N’dranou to look into the case.
“She could be the girlfriend or the wife of the officer but the investigation should make that clear,” he said.
The two suspects are presently in police custody.
