Drought-affected villagers get food supply
The National, Tuesday February 9th, 2016
FOOD rations are being supplied to drought-affected villages in Bulolo and will take around eight months to reach every ward, MP Sam Basil says.
Bulolo district has six local level governments with 110 wards. Last Friday, the district disaster coordination team delivered rice bags, sugar and tinned fish to Ward 14 (Mumengtain) and Ward 4 (Bupu, Omalai, New Camp and Zimake.
People at Ward 4 received 146 bags of rice, 44 sugar bags and 37 cartons of tinned fish.
Basil said the districts disaster programme had been rolled out to villages and wards as the team sorted out food ration between the six LLGs.
“We will make sure all the wards in Bulolo district will have their share of food rations under the district disaster programme. We are giving out one bag of 10kg rice, six packets of sugar and six canned fish,” Basil said.
He said the district services improvement funds had been used for the Bulolo district relief supplies.
“The relief assistance will progress through the whole of this year as we have many remote places to cover. So it will take at least six to eight months to rollout the programme,” Basil said.
