A GROUP of six allegedly drunk men stoned a new 10-seater police vehicle last Friday in Western, provincial police commander Insp Silva Sikar says.

He said three men had been arrested while three others were on the run.

“I would like to commend the community leaders for helping out police and would like the other three to surrender,” Sikar said.

The vehicle was donated to police last month by Western Governor Ati Wobiro.

Sikar said the officers were on their usual patrol between 8pm and 9pm when the vehicle was stoned near Gaima corner.

He urged men from the mine-affected villages in North, Middle and South Fly to refrain from drinking and taking illegal drugs and put to better use compensation money paid to them by the Government.

“Refrain from these illegal activities and do something good for the community,” Sikar said.

Sikar appealed to the people to respect police and work with them to maintain law and order in the province.
