Drunken looter killed while selling stolen beer

National, Normal

A YOUNG drunken looter was killed and several others were injured in two separate accidents along the Highlands Highway’s Yonki section last week.
They were looting a double container truck laden with cartons of beer from East West Transport that ran off the road.
Kainantu town residents told The National the looters helped themselves to the beer and were also stopping motorists on the highway to sell the beer for K15 to K40 per carton.
They started behaving disorderly after gulping down cans of beer and two accidents occurred when they tried to stop motorists, residents said.
In one of the accidents, a young looter was hit by a car and he died on the spot.
A source at Kainantu Hospital said several young men were given outpatient treatment for cuts and bruises sustained in the accidents.
Eastern Highlands provincial police commander Chief Supt Augustine Wampe could not confirm the accidents because he had yet to receive briefs from Yonki and Kainantu police.
