THE drunken police officer who injured a man after firing shots during a sports event will be dealt with appropriately, Police Minister Nixon Duban told Parliament.

The incident happened in Kimbe in West New Britain last  weekend.

He said the police officer had breached the rules and could face termination if found guilty by an internal investigation team.

“We will deal with him as the act was criminal in nature and he will face severe consequences,” he said.

Duban said the officer had been taken off duty.
